A Wine Tasting Introduction

By Ted Robertson

Most people who have never been to a wine tasting event don't know what to expect. If it is your first wine tasting holiday then you might want to know what to do and what to expect whenever you visit the Wine Country.

Make sure that you eat a good breakfast before you fo wine tasting. Carbohydrates and fats should be included in your morning meal. Including these will preserve your sugar levels.

Women should not wear any kind of lip rouge or lip gloss while wine tasting. The taste of the wine can be effected by the oils in the lipstick, in fact even the aroma can make a big difference to the taste.

The taste of the wine can also be effected by strong aftershave or perfume so avoid wearing these on the day.

There may be some free wine sampling wine makers or vineyards in your chosen wine region but be warned most charge a tiny fee, this can range from 10 - 25 bucks per person. There are some good deals to be found at these wine sampling days, you can even get a complementary glass with the purchase of some wines.

It would be a good idea to wear sensible walking shoes and not fashion shoes when visiting wine makers. You need to remember that wineries are more or less farms and you should look forward to to do some walking about the grounds.

Just like your shoes don't go dressed up when visiting the wine country, remember these are farms and can get rather dirty. You may be going for a meal in high end eating places after the wine tasting day, then you may want to bring a change of clothes.

If you really want to enjoy every last drop of vino when you visit Wine Country, then you might want to plan ahead and hire a guide. By doing so, you will be able to have an expert map out your itinerary and activities that will be able to help you save a lot of precious time and money. And, they will also save you that "driving under the influence" ticket that is very much possible whenever you visit Wine Country.
